Totally agree, from the time that we arrived on Friday until the time that we left on Sunday we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves,Didn't bother with the motown room but the modern and main rooms were banging and the atmosphere was fantastic. On behalf of most of the Boston and Kings Lynn crew I would like to thank Jamie and his team for a superb weekend, well done guys looking forward to next year.By the way I thought it worked a lot better without live acts even though one or two dj's were fairly lively.

Gotta agree there. A cracking weekend all round.

Reducing the size of plaza which hosted the "jazz funk/modern" was a vast improvement on last year and really came into its own this year.

Wife prefers the Motown/Youth Club kind of side so we spent roughly an equal amount of time between all three rooms taking in the variety of sounds.

All dee jays did us all proud with a great selection of tunes whether they be Northern, Crossover, Motown, Classic, Modern or just great soul sounds.

Congrats to promoters, jocks and everone else involved in the running of the weekend, you did us all proud again. Only disappoinment was not being able to get the weekends soul radio on the box.

Enjoyed it all but the highlight for me was Martin Stanford's set for the last hour on Saturday night ---------- IT WAS JUMPIN'

Second year at Sunny Hunny and believe me it wasn't.....I guess the EASC T-shirts should have a couple of brass monkeys on them instead of 2 little ducks (some sort of "Bingo" reference, I guess) on them.

Was this weekend better than last year!!! For some I guess yes, for me sadly not (soulwise that is). The sound systems were absolutely awful, with Bass and feedback hum coming from every room, and even the Promoters helpers (not Santas little helpers!!!) admitted that they were embarrassed that Numark decks were being used with cartidges that had been on since the end of the last millenium.

Now the people there seemed very nice and the ones I knew and were introduced to were really great and friendly. So, from a social aspect and if you like drinking lots of alcohol (particularly a DJ who had Bottles of Vodka ice on the Modern dance floor!!!!) then please go to this weekend because it is for you.

The venue itself is very smart and well laid out and with 3 rooms you would hope for everything you could hope for. So why did DJ's walk in with 3 or 4 boxes of great records and we ended up with repeats of some tunes....Again!!!
I love Teddy "The More I get, the more I want" but the title doesn't mean that we have to hear it four times in one night in the Modern (Oldies,Jazz Funk,Disco,????) Room. Infact, I joked with Steve Jay, that if he was playing later on, that he could play it again just in case any person in the East of England had happened to miss it!!!.

The Pizza (pepperoni) was to die for (12" for £7.50) and picking up a copy of the Superlatives "I still Love You" from the respected Dave Appleyard for £5 (hope it's not a boot???) was great. Mick Cooper and Martin Stanford played some of the tunes you could expect to hear on Sunday and the Yorkshire boy and John Poole mashed the main room with there "Northern" tunes. The Cleethorpes thing I missed, sadly, as I was otherwise engaged so perhaps someone can tell me how that went.

There seemed to have been alot of political and ego rivalries going on before the event and during, which is great and someitmes typical of this scene wherever you go and at least gives us non-interested in politics people something to smile about. Sadly, however it ended up with one of the best record dealers not turning up and then not DJing, which sort of takes the laughter away (don't you think???).

You see, the thing is, that my opinion is mine and the great news is that the caravans have sold out already for next year and if I change my mind and decide to go, I have no doubt that at £25 a night i will book into the B&B (thanks Angie) and wake up in my four poster bed again before wandering down to my grilled (very healthy) English Breakfast.

It was a VG+ quality weekender and will continue to be so as long as people support it.

Soulfully Yours

Jonathan

Hi there Jonathan,
I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend as it was our first trip there. 3 good rooms, good accomodation and varying "Soul Types" in attendance.
Spent sometime in the main Northern room on the Fri night due to friends/ family being in there & then moved to my favourite room..............Jazz Funk & Modern room & stayed there.
Yes, you are correct in saying that there was a few repeat tunes in there, but the same applied in the Northern Room, & something that you will always get at weekenders.
My only criticism of the "Modern/Oldies/jazz funk / Disco Room" ( as you called it ), was the size of the dancefloor as it could have been bigger to accomodate the amount that wanted to use it!!
There were numerous people there that drank lots of alcohol, including myself ( copious amounts of Tramp fuel a.k.a. Cider ) & 1 or 2 did wander onto the dancefloor with their drinks, but not for long.
Shame about the lack of record dealers there as i was looking forward to having a rummage through the boxes
I didn't catch the whole of the Cleethorpes Tribute on Sat afternoon, but caught Poke's spot which i thought very enjoyable, as he played some stuff that i hadn't heard for sometime, tunes akin to Black Nasty - Cut your motor off, which sounds real good today.
The Caravans are not sold out for next year, it's only the 2 berth ones that have been snapped up.
We have already booked for 2010 & i'm sure that with more dj's added to the rosta (Marco Martinelli, Sam Evan's etc ) that it will be as good if not better than this year's event , & i'm sure we'll see you there.

Regards,
John Mc.

CONGRATULATIONS JAMIE AND YOUR EAST ANGLIAN CREW.
THERES ALWAYS GOING TO A FEW ISSUES WHEN YOU CREATE A MONSTER, AS IT WAS ONLY THE SECOND TIME THE EVENT HAS BEEN HELD, PERSONALLY I THINK YOU DID A MAGNIFICENT JOB.
LAST YEAR THE MODERN/JAZZ/FUNK ROOM WAS RELATIVELY QUIET, THIS YEAR IT WAS PACKED CERTAINLY ON SATURDAY NIGHT,LAST YEAR THE MOTOWN ROOM WAS PACKED,THIS YEAR A LITTLE QUIETER(IS THE REASON THE WHOLE COUNTRY HAS BEEN SATURATED WITH MOTOWN THIS YEAR ?).
THE NORTHERN ROOM,YOU GOT WHAT IT SAID ON THE CAN,BUSY BOTH NIGHTS.
AS FOR THE MUSIC,WELL ,THERES ALWAYS GOING TO BE A FEW TRACKS REPEATED ,DJS PLAYING A CERTAIN TRACK,A BIT LATER ON A PUNTER REQUESTS THE SAME TRACK FROM ANOTHER DJ.ETC.
HERD A FEW MOANS THEY'VE PLAYED THIS ALREADY,I WONDER IF THE SAME FOLK WOULD HAVE COMPLAINED IF,JOSEPH WEBSTER,ARTHUR WILLIS,ANTELECTS ETC WOULD HAVE BEEN PLAYED TWICE ?.
THIS WAS A GREAT WEEKENDER THE ATMOSPHERE WAS BRILLIANT,AND HAD THE PLEASURE OF BOOKING FOR 2010 FOR THE NEXT PARTY.
IT WAS A PLEASURE TO MEET UP WITH CHRIS DALTON AND YOCKY AGAIN,FIRST TIME SINCE CHICAGO,GOOD TO SEE YOU BOTH AGAIN.

Never been a Pizza fan, probably healthier eating the box it came in.
If you ventured into the restaurant; fantastic, healthy breakfast (if you wished) but also fried eggs, plus mountains of other food.
Evening meal consisted of liver and bacon or turkey or gammon steak or lasagne with veg or salad, a sweet or two including fruit salad.
A four star hotel would be proud of these very tasty dishes served with a smile. Reasonably priced.

Caravans, clean and warm, a few minutes walk from the gig, thankyou Mick, Sharon and especially Jobie for your company.
Why would anyone at a soul week ender want a four poster bed, to knackered to appreciate it, now on holiday, well thats another story.

Took my bucket and spade, but this is England. Ducks enjoyed it, a bit of fine tuning needed, but a great weekend.
As for the politics, I don't vote, too long in the tooth.

cambridge soul:

Well at one point I had 3 bottles of vodka ice on the dance floor! I’m such a naughty boy! Posted Image Lol well last weekender I went to was Southport and there is no where to put ya drink down so you learn the skill of dancing with a bottle ....let ya hair down Jonathan Posted Image ...this is defo not a chin strokes weekender! Although I did play a few rare 7”’s in the jazz funk/ modern room that maybe you will own one day if you’re lucky Jonathan.....the atmosphere at this weekender is fantastic the majority of people (99%) are up for a great weekend out with people they know and to meet new friends..... I’m ok with said dealer not turning up as I got to rock the modern room this year as well as next! lol, thanks to Jamie and crew for putting this event on...end of.

Can’t wait till next year

David “ vodka bottle” Hayden

at £5 it's prob a boot, could you not tell ?????

coops:

for me i found this years east anglian soul weekend even better than last years (new sat-nav) and last years was top-draw.
constant 'tweaking' from the team led to a couple of verry well received additions to the dee-jay line up, the curtaining off of the modern room and the weekend radio was a big plus.
the modern/jazz funk room really came into it's own this year and all-in-all i don't think i would even consider missing next year.
the caravan this year was both bigger and warmer than last year and the saturday breakfast once again sank all who ate it!!!
(yocky and joys stories in the caravan more than made up for our skip's snoring, gowd bless him)
